Zero Year

For international students with no knowledge of the Portuguese language, the Zero Year not only enables a first contact with Portuguese higher education but it is also a good opportunity to acquire some knowledge on the Portuguese language (levels B1 and B2 of the European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Applicants must enrol in two semi-annual course units of the Portuguese language (12 ECTS), and may also choose 3 more course units (18 ECTS) from the undergraduate program for which they intend to apply.

If they find it relevant, Zero Year students may still attend a specific curricular preparation unit for the math exam (12 ECTS) or physics and chemistry (12 ECTS). In this case, students can only enrol in a curricular unit (6 ECTS) of the course for which they intend to apply.

In the following year, these students are expected to apply for UBI as international students, and if they are accepted, the course units concluded during the Zero Year, will be credited to them at this point. The Portuguese Language course units can’t be credited in this process, due to the fact that there aren’t any equivalent units and because they are part of a preparatory course.

Application deadlines: from 1 July to 2 September 2016

Online application: (soon)

Monthly fee: 75€ (x 10 months)
